The Rooted Birtworker
About Me
Let me introduce myself. I'm Kandice White (she/her), a Certified Integrative Health Coach, Traditional Birth Attendant, and student midwife. Aside from my passion for health, wellness, and birth, I enjoy various art forms like singing, dancing, painting, or crafting. My husband Erik and I are nature enthusiasts who love gardening and exploring new flavors as foodies. Although Gary, Indiana natives, we've called Richmond, Virginia our home in the Powhatan/Shockoe/Musqueam territory for the past 10 years.
Since childhood, I've always valued health and wellbeing while being deeply connected to the healing power of nature. At 16 years old when faced with hormonal imbalances that conventional medicine couldn't address effectively, I turned to ancestral wisdom for self-healing through holistic methods such as incorporating nourishing foods and herbs into my life - a transformational experience that still guides me today.
Recognizing the need for wider access to knowledge and resources towards maintaining healthy lifestyles, including in reproductive healthcare.

Why birthwork?
For years, I have been captivated by the beauty and intricacy of pregnancy and childbirth. It was witnessing the birth of my nephew 13 years ago that ignited a passion within me to delve deeper into understanding the journey of bringing new life into this world. This experience also shed light on the shortcomings of our current healthcare system, particularly in terms of support, advocacy, and transparency for marginalized communities like Black, Brown, and Indigenous individuals. I firmly believe that every parent should feel empowered, safe, and fully supported throughout this transformative process.
